Start with a good GPS position
Open Record in the iPhone or Android app. Allow precise location and wait for a fresh position before starting. Check that your position moves and the distance increases once you set off.
Choose the recording mode you need. Screen open requires the recorder to stay open. Screen locked needs the additional permissions shown by the app. A GPS warning means new route points may not be captured; a visible map alone does not confirm that recording is working.
Mark the places worth keeping
Use Restaurant / Café for a coffee stop and Gather up for a place to regroup. Add a name that will make sense to the next driver. You can also mark another stop or a road hazard.
Markers need a recent, precise GPS position. A hazard is a warning on the route, not an instruction for the group to stop there. You will review its role along with the other points in the portal.
Finish, then save to your library
Tap Finish recording when the drive is over. Name the recording and save it to your account. Wait for the library-save confirmation before relying on the portal copy; Saved on this phone is only the local copy.
If there is no continuous GPS route to save, keep the draft to resume later or choose Discard draft & start fresh. Discarding removes that local draft and its markers, not recordings already saved in your library.
Review the road in the web portal
Sign in to the same account, open Recorded routes, choose your drive and select Prepare navigation. Use the whole recording or a recorded section. Check the start, finish and every stop; decide which points are required, optional or kept only in the recording.
Select Preview route and compare the navigation line with the recorded drive. A tunnel or lost GPS can leave a gap in the original trace. Proposed gap connections appear in dark blue during preparation: they are estimates to review, not GPS data recovered from the tunnel.
Inspect each changed section before accepting it. If a connection cannot be resolved, try a different section or a new preview. The original recording stays private and unchanged.
Save the route and make any final edits
When the preview is right, choose Save route for a rally. This saves the road and waypoints you reviewed as a published route version.
To move a waypoint or adjust the roads later, open the published route and choose Move waypoints / Edit route. This creates an editable copy in Route Studio. Review and publish that copy when you are happy with it; the original recording and earlier published version remain unchanged.
Choose the route for your next rally
Select Use in a rally to start setting up the event with that route. Add the meeting time, location and club if relevant. Publishing a route on its own does not update an existing event.
Before departure, open the rally on your phone and check its assigned route and navigation readiness. If the organiser changes the route version, review the new one. Route receipt and offline availability are separate checks.
Common questions
The distance stays at 0 km. What should I check?
While parked, check the recorder’s GPS status, location permission and precise-location setting. Wait for a fresh position. If capture is unavailable, do not assume a moving map or a Recording label means points are being saved. Keep the draft and report the phone model, app build and GPS message if the problem continues.
My drive is missing from the portal. Where is it?
Check that the app and portal use the same account, and that the recording says it is saved to your library. A local recording needs a successful online save before it appears in Recorded routes. Keep it on the phone until that save is confirmed.
Can I fix a wrong turn without losing the original?
Use the editable route copy to adjust the roads and waypoints, then review and publish it. The original GPS recording stays separate, so you can return to it when comparing your changes.
